The ID Now Strep test utilizes isothermal nucleic acid amplification technology for the qualitative detection of Group A Strep bacterial nucleic acids.   It is a rapid test and is confirmatory, which means that a culture is not required in the event of a negative test.

The most common symptoms include:

• Sore throat that can start very quickly
• Pain when swallowing
• Fever
• Red and swollen tonsils, sometimes with white patches or streaks of pus
• Tiny, red spots (petechiae — pronounced pi-TEE-kee-eye) on the roof of the mouth (the soft or hard palate)
• Swollen lymph nodes in the front of the neck

Headache, stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting can also occur and are more common in children.

If a patient is positive for Group A strep infection:

• The pharmacy will contact the patient’s primary care provider for treatment.
• If the patient has no primary care provider or if they are unreachable, the pharmacy will dispense appropriate antibiotic therapy based upon a collaborative practice agreement with a medical provider.
